Café Pilát

Café and wine-bar interior

Quod scripsi, scripsi. (John 19:20–22)

The café and wine-bar called Pilát is situated on the premises of the Capuchin Cloister on Kapucínské Square in Brno. The owner's name is Pilát and the biblical story and times of Pontius Pilate, ancient Rome and its provinces served as inspiration for the interior, graphics and menu of the café. We worked with materials typical for antiquity: stone, copper, wood, glass mosaic and textile. The walls are adorned with hand-painted mural composed of fragments of Pompeii frescoes, contour lines of Brno and pixelated fauna. Pixels serve as contemporary mosaic. The bar's glass front composes a three-level diorama of the Garden of Paradise. The visitors may even enjoy Mediterranean dishes, Moravian wine and Sicilian coffee while reclining on sofas with built-in granite tables. Instead of music one listens to birds singing and in the summer the café's terrace offers a magnificent view of St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral.
